Fred David Francis Marion College

Fred David is presently the TranSouth Professor of Strategic Management at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. Dr. David has taught business policy and strategic management at both the graduate and undergraduate levels for seventeen years. Previously he served on the management faculty at Auburn University, Mississippi State University, and East Carolina University. He holds a BS Degree in Mathematics and an MBA Degree from Wake Forest University and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.
Professor David has written more than one hundred management articles and cases in such journals as Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Executive, Long Range Planning, and the Advanced Management Journal. He has published three widely used textbooks: Strategic Management, Cases in Strategic Management, and Concepts of Strategic Management. Dr. David is an active member of the Academy of Management, Southern Management Association, Society for the Advancement of Management, and the Strategic Leadership Forum. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Southern Management Association from 1989 to 1992 and as the Business Policy and Planning Track Chair in 1989.
The new 7th edition of Dr. David's Strategic Management text will be published in November 1998. Used worldwide, this text is published in Spanish, German, and Chinese and has become perhaps the second best selling business policy textbook in the United States. The new edition features expanded coverage of global issues in strategic management, information technology issues, and natural environment concerns. The new text offers 35 exceptionally current cases, 49 Experiential Exercises, and a 1998 Cohesion Case on Hershey Foods Corporation.
