Afsaneh Nahavandi

Afsaneh Nahavandi received a B.A. degree in Psychology and French from the University of Denver, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Utah. An award-winning teacher and author, she first taught at Northeastern University's School of Business in Boston and then moved to Arizona State University West as one of the founding business faculty in 1987. In addition to her teaching responsibilities at ASU West, she also directed the MBA program.

Afsaneh's teaching interests include organizational behavior, theory and culture, cultural diversity and leadership. She has done consulting and training work for many organizations, including AT&T and Honeywell. She has written extensively, publishing articles in the Academy of Management Review, the Journal of Management Studies and Group and Organizational Studies. Her article about teams was selected as the Academy of Management Executive best article in 1994. She is the author The Art and Science of Leadership (1997) and co-author of Organizational Behavior: The Person-Organization Fit (1998) and Organizational Culture in the Management of Mergers (1993). She is currently working on two projects, The Art and Science of Leadership, 2nd edition and co-authoring Strategic Management with Dr. Ali Malekzadeh and Dr. Martin B. Meznar (ASU West). She is married to her "co-author and best friend," Dr. Ali Malekzadeh; they have two daughters, Parisa and Arianne. Born in Iran, Afsaneh is fluent in both French and Farsi, trained in Spanish, and is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She resides in Phoenix.
