Above and Beyond
http://www.aboveandbeyondintl.com/
- Above and Beyond is a group of organizational development specialists. Their site will give you a good idea of the kind of work and approach to work that OD specialists take. A look at their Organizational Profile link shows that they focus on such areas as improving communication, leadership, a better understanding of one’s personal style, trust and team building. Their unique approach is to combine traditional indoor workshops on these topics with what they call OET, or Outdoor Experiential Training. This includes rock climbing, kayaking, and wilderness expeditions. The "Team Development" link has some photos of these programs in action, as does their "Leadership Programs" link, but an excellent, detailed description of what these programs are like (along with more photos) can be found by clicking on the "Organizational Profile" link and scrolling to the bottom and clicking on "magazine articles". Here you’ll find two articles that appeared in Teamwork and Incentive magazine. Both describe participants’ experiences in a workshop by Above and Beyond.

- Chapter 9 of this very valuable work on strategic management emphasises the need for strategists to seek competitive advantage through horizontal linkages that integrate the work of various parts of the organisation. Case examples illustrate the concepts and idea presented. This material is also very relevant to the issues of corporate strategy , in particular parenting. Many other chapters of this book are available online: they are well worth a browse.

Time and Innovation
http://www.agsm.unsw.edu.au/~timdev/main.htm
- As competition increases in most business areas, achieving and maintaining an edge on other players is increasingly difficult: innovation can be a valid source of sustainable competitive advantage. The volume from which this chapter is taken is a very valuable work on strategic management. This chapter in particular is useful in understanding the importance and role of innovation to achieve competitive advantage. The connection the author makes to the time dimension is particularly helpful. Many other chapters of the book are also available on line, ad a browse through can be very rewarding.
